Where a roof is large, a slab is going to be buried, or the client wants a thick, proven barrier rather than a liquid film, torch-applied bitumen membrane remains the most robust waterproofing available.
The sheet arrives at a controlled factory thickness, so nothing depends on how many coats the applicator remembered to put on, and it is fully bonded to the primed deck by torching, with laps welded so the finished surface is continuous.

The deck must be sound, dry and free of sharp projections, with correct falls to drains and 50 mm coving at all upstands.
Apply bitumen primer to the whole area and allow it to dry fully before torching.
Roll out and align sheets dry first, working from the low point so laps shed water correctly.
Melt the underside evenly and press the sheet down as it unrolls. A small bead of bitumen should appear at the edge. That is the sign of a proper bond.
Weld all laps and upstands, seal around drains and penetrations, then flood test for 24–48 hours.
